In June 2026, Elon Musk revived one of electrical history’s oldest arguments. He wrote that “AC was the right choice back then, but DC is the right choice today” , pointing to solar panels, batteries, electric cars and computers before predicting that relatively little alternating current would remain in the distant future. It is a perfect internet claim: technically suggestive, historically provocative and blunt enough to irritate almost everyone who knows the subject. The observation beneath it is real. Photovoltaic panels produce direct current. Batteries store it. Computers, phones, servers and LEDs operate internally at DC voltages. Electric vehicles are organised around DC battery packs, even though power electronics convert that energy for other parts of the drivetrain. Young Sherlock First Impressions: When Holmes and Moriarty Were Friends

I had watched only the opening episodes of Young Sherlock when I first wrote these impressions, so this is not a verdict on the complete season. Even so, the series left me with enough to consider—especially its decision to introduce Sherlock Holmes and James Moriarty not as adversaries, but as friends. Sherlock Holmes has been adapted so often that every new version arrives already surrounded by ghosts. It must compete not only with Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories, but with more than a century of actors, costumes, catchphrases, deductions, deerstalkers, and attempts to explain why Holmes became Holmes. That last part is where Young Sherlock becomes both promising and dangerous. An origin story can add emotional weight to a familiar character. When the Mask Changes the Self: Identity and Impersonation in Fiction

Impersonation stories usually begin with a practical problem. A king is missing, a fortune is inaccessible or a plan requires someone to occupy another person’s place long enough for the machinery around that identity to keep working. The initial task seems technical: reproduce the face, learn the history, wear the correct clothes and survive the scrutiny of people who believe they know the original. The deeper problem appears after the performance succeeds. Identity may mean a legal name, an office, a body, a remembered past, a set of loyalties or the person other people have learned to recognise, and those elements do not always move together. A role can become socially real before it feels psychologically true. Recognition grants access and authority; repetition builds habits; relationships generate obligations.
